Building on the cornerstones of imagination and creative expression, the SFCA Drama department inspires students toward greater realization of their unique potential and a deeper understanding of the world around them through the lens of the theater. Open as an elective for all 5th-12 graders, students explore various performance, technical, and administrative aspects of theatre. Students learn about basic characterization through physical activity, reading selected theatre literature, reading and writing theatrical reviews, and analysis of such tools as scripts, costuming, and theatrical makeup. Students perform in two productions each year. Participation in and exposure to the arts is an integral part of the educational process, expanding a student’s horizons and teaching creative skills that will enhance the life of the student beyond the school experience.
